Nalani

Balance. Recover. Elevate.

Solid teak, built by hand in Bali. The Duo Barrel, a round ice bath for two, or the long teak chest from Rp 45 juta. Cold plunges, finally built like furniture.

The name

Nalani β€” the stillness of the sky, the calm of the water. We took a Balinese candi bentar, the split gate you walk through to leave the ordinary world behind, and we built it into a bath.

Every Nalani is cut, joined, oiled and engraved by a single carpentry workshop in Bali. The teak is what you see, touch and sit on. Inside it, a food-grade vessel does the one job teak should not do: holding the water. No factory shell from a place you will never see. Just teak, water, and three minutes that change the shape of your day.

The product

The Nalani Duo Barrel

A round teak ice bath for two. Built properly. Everything included.

Two people. One round bath. Cold that holds.

A food-grade vessel sits inside a cage of solid teak staves, with 50 mm of insulation between them. Two teak benches let you sit facing each other with the water at chest height. The chiller, pump, filter and UV steriliser live in a ventilated teak cabinet alongside, so what your guests see is wood.

  • 68 solid teak staves, 25 mm, held by three 316 stainless bands
  • About 960 litres at 850 mm depth, held at 4–6 Β°C
  • Two lift-out teak benches, 350 mm seat height, 635 mm legroom
  • Three teak steps and a two-piece teak lid
  • Filtration and UV steriliser included, from a standard 220V supply

  • Marine plywood inner structure β€” built for the tropics
  • Natural teak oil finish, re-oilable forever
  • Gas-strut lid that stays where you leave it

Cold that holds, all day, every day

A 702-litre insulated basin sits under a dedicated chiller that holds 4–6 Β°C, or whatever you dial in on the digital panel. No ice runs. No guessing. Water is circulated continuously through a filter housing, with UV sterilisation available, so it stays clear between changes.

  • Digital touch control, temperature set-and-forget
  • Continuous circulation, filtration and optional UV
  • Runs from a standard 220V single-phase supply
  • Stainless basket and rear drain outlet for easy servicing

Why cold

Three minutes. All day.

Deliberate cold exposure is one of the most studied recovery practices in the world. Here is what people come back for.

Recovery

Cold constricts, warmth returns, and the flush that follows is what surfers, fighters and yoga teachers in Bali plunge for after training.

Energy

The first breath is a reset. Most people step out sharper than three coffees would ever make them, and without the crash at noon.

Focus

Cold water gives you something impossible to think around. Staying calm inside it is a skill that follows you out of the bath.

Sleep

Plunge in the late afternoon and the body drops into its evening rhythm on its own. Regular bathers notice this one first.

Resilience

Controlled stress, willingly entered, then released. Breath work in the cold is the whole practice β€” the tub is only the room.

Ritual

Sunrise, gate, water, silence. A Nalani gives the morning a shape, which is the part guests remember long after they fly home.

Cold immersion is a wellness practice, not a medical treatment. If you are pregnant or have a heart, circulatory or blood-pressure condition, speak to your doctor first. Never plunge alone, and never after alcohol.

The craft

Made by a workshop, not a factory

Nalani began with one carpenter, one pile of teak and a very simple frustration: every cold plunge for sale in Bali was a plastic tub with a box of machinery bolted to the side, priced like a piece of design.

So we built the thing we wanted. Solid teak, because it is the one timber that laughs at tropical humidity and salt air. Marine plywood inside, where nobody looks but the weather still goes. Steps wide enough to sit on with a coffee. And the gate, hand-carved into a teak plaque on the cabinet door, so it darkens with the wood as the years pass.

Every unit is made to order and finished in Bali. We can engrave your villa, your studio or your retreat's name beside the gate β€” at no extra cost, on every build.

Questions

Before you ask

How cold does it actually get, and how long does it take?

It holds 4–6Β°C, and you can set it anywhere in that range. Most people settle near the warm end: cold enough to do the job, kind enough that you stay in for the full three minutes. From tropical tap water the first pull-down takes many hours; after that the chiller simply maintains the temperature, so it is ready every morning without ice.

What does it cost to run?

It runs from an ordinary 220V household socket. The chiller only works when the water drifts above your set point, so a well-sited, well-shaded unit with the lid closed costs far less than most people expect. We will size it with you for your specific spot.

How many people fit?

The Duo Barrel seats two, facing each other on two benches, with 635 mm of legroom. The water is 850 mm deep for one person; for two large adults we lower the level a little so it stays below the rim.

Indoors or outdoors?

Both. Teak is built for the tropics and the machine cabinet is louvred and ventilated. Outdoors we ask for a shaded position where possible, clear air around the cabinet, and a covered power point.

How do I keep the water clean?

Continuous circulation through a sediment filter and a UV steriliser, plus a weekly test-strip routine we teach you at handover. Rinse before you get in and the water lasts a long time. Plan a full drain and refill every two to three months; we show you how.

Do you deliver outside Bali?

Bali installs are done by our own team. Elsewhere in Indonesia, ask us: the finished bath weighs about 215 kg, so we plan the route and the lift with you before we quote.

Can you build a different size?

We can. Custom lengths, twin plunges, hot-and-cold pairs and built-in installations are all things we have drawn. Send us the space and we will send you a drawing.

What is the lead time?

Made to order in the workshop. Tell us your date and we will confirm honestly whether we can meet it before you pay anything.

Tell us where it is going and what you want it to do. We answer every message ourselves, usually the same day, from Bali.
